Experience the authentic culture of the local people
5 days Mohare Danda Trek Overview
The Mohare Danda Trek is one of the famous treks among the trekkers. This trek is suitable for beginners. The Mohare Danda trek offers panoramic views of the Himalayas, including Annapurna and Dhaulagiri, and the trail goes through lush green forests and small settlements. Then you emerge into these lovely little Magar and Gurung villages. It’s a chance to see a side of Nepal that’s real and unhurried, where a smile and a "Namaste" go a long way.
But the moment that gets you is the sunrise from the top. Standing there in the cold morning air at 3,300 meters, watching the first light paint the highest mountains on earth, it’s one of those moments that just silences you. It's humbling, in the best possible way.
And here’s the part that feels good: this is a community-run trek. You’re staying in lodges owned by local families, eating food they’ve cooked. Your visit means something to them. You don’t have to be some kind of climbing pro, either. It’s a pretty gentle walk, perfect if you want the epic views without an epic struggle.
It’s just a trek with a heartbeat. A way to find that quiet, powerful connection to the Himalayas you’ve been looking for.
Route Description
The whole thing kicks off with a bumpy, scenic ride out of Pokhara, leaving the city chaos behind. You get dropped off in a sleepy little spot called Bans Kharka, and that's where you trade the car seat for your hiking boots. The real adventure starts here.
The first couple of days are a lovely, steady climb. You're not killing yourself, just winding your way up through cool forests and these incredible terraced fields that look like giant green stairsteps carved into the mountainside. You’ll end up in Nangi, a village with a special vibe; you can just feel the strong community spirit there.
From Nangi, you make the push up to the main event: Mohare Danda. And let me tell you, the view from that ridge is the real deal. You’re standing at 3,300 meters with the entire Annapurna and Dhaulagiri ranges spread out like a postcard in front of you. Seeing the sunrise from there is one of those moments that just sticks with you.
What’s kind of cool is that from the top, the trail dips down and eventually connects you to the more famous Ghorepani-Poon Hill trek. It feels like you get a "best of both worlds" deal: the quiet solitude of Mohare, plus the iconic sunrise view from Poon Hill that everyone talks about.
The final leg of the walk is a beautiful descent through more forests that leads you to Ghandruk. It’s a gorgeous old Gurung village and the perfect place to just relax and soak it all in before hopping in a jeep for the ride back to Pokhara. You’ll come back tired, but in that deeply satisfying way that only a good trek can make you feel.
Mohare Danda Trek Itinerary
First thing, you'll hop in a jeep and bounce your way out of Pokhara. It’s a wild ride, and you’ll see everything: green hills, little villages, and bustling markets before you get to a place by the river called Galeshwor. That's where you ditch the wheels and finally start walking. The trail up to Bans Kharka is a nice, easy start. It’s not about crushing miles; it’s about letting your body settle into the rhythm of the trail and getting your first real "hello" from the local Magar folks.

Know Before You Go
Why trek Mohare Danda?
If you're looking for a trek that feels like an actual adventure and not a tourist highway, Mohare Danda is it. You get all the giant mountain views you’re hoping for without having to share the viewpoint with a hundred other people. Standing on that ridge at 3,300 meters, watching the sunrise over the Annapurnas, is just as spectacular as anywhere else, but it feels more like your own private show.
The other big reason to go is the people. This isn't a commercial route lined with generic lodges. You're staying with local families in their community-run guesthouses. It’s a chance to see a more authentic side of Nepal and know that your trip is making a real difference. It’s the perfect blend of stunning nature and real cultural connection, and you don't have to be a pro hiker to do it. It’s just a damn good trek.
Mohare Danda Trek Difficulty
The Mohare Danda trek is not hard, but also not a walk in the park. The trek is moderate and can be done without having expertise in the trekking field. You’re on your feet for a good chunk of the day, but the trails are in good shape and the pace is never rushed.
The best part is that you don’t have to deal with extreme altitude. Since the whole trek stays below 3,300 meters, it's a great way to see the giant peaks without the headache of acclimatizing to super high elevations.
The uphill parts will get your heart pumping, for sure, but they're doable for anyone with a decent level of fitness. You don’t need any special experience. If you can handle a long day hike at home, you can handle this. And knowing a warm lodge and a good dinner are waiting for you at the end of the day? That makes all the difference. It's all about getting the big mountain feeling without the big mountain suffering.
Best Season to Trek
Go in the spring or the fall.
Spring (March-May) is when the rhododendron forests just go crazy with color. It's beautiful, the weather's warm, and the mountain views are solid.
Fall (September-November) is when you get those ridiculously clear, postcard-perfect views. The air is cleaner, the skies are bluer, and the mountains just pop. It’s peak season for a reason.
Winter is just too cold unless you're prepared for it. And the monsoon in the summer is a wet, leech-filled mess where you probably won't even see the mountains. Just go in spring or fall.
Food and Accommodation on Trek
Accommodation
You're staying in community lodges, which are cozy guesthouses run by the families who live there. They're simple, but you’ll get a clean room with a warm bed and a good pile of blankets. You'll usually eat and hang out in a big communal dining room, which is where you get to hear everyone's stories from the day. The best part is knowing your money is going straight into their pockets, not to some big company. It just makes the whole experience feel more real and meaningful.
Food
You’ll be eating simple homemade food during the trek to Mohare Danda. It’s not fancy, but it’s some of the most satisfying food you’ll ever have. You’re going to eat a lot of dal bhat. Like, a lot of it. But it’s the fuel that powers everyone in the Himalayas for a reason. After walking for a long day, you’ll have a full plate of rice, lentils, and seasonal veggies, which gives you satisfaction.
Typical meals include
Dal Bhat (rice, lentil soup, vegetables, and pickles)—the staple and most popular trekking meal
Chapati with curry or vegetables
Seasonal vegetables, eggs, fried rice, noodles, or pasta
Porridge, pancakes, or Tibetan bread for breakfast
Tea, coffee, and herbal drinks are available at all lodges.
Permits for Mohare Danda Trek
Annapurna Conservation Area Permit
Mohare Danda is located in the Annapurna Conservation Area, so trekkers need to have an ACAP permit.
You can get ACAP from the Nepal Tourism Board offices in Kathmandu or Pokhara, or the checkpost.
Trekkers’ Information Management System
A TIMS card is also mandatory for the Mohare Danda Trek. This card is issued by Tourism Board offices in Kathmandu or Pokhara.
A well-professional guide is recommended for the trek, especially on the less marked trekking trails. The guide helps you to track the route and gives you information about the place and the culture of local Nepali people. And if any emergency arises, the guide will provide you support.
Why choose Nepal Trekking Rangers for the Mohare Danda Trek?
You know, anyone can take you up a trail. But for Nepal Trekking Rangers, a place like Mohare Danda is personal. Our guides aren't just guys who memorized a map; they grew up in these hills. They know the shortcuts, but more importantly, they know the families, the old stories, and the right way to walk these paths with respect.
When you go with us, we take care of all the logistics so you can just be there. Be in the moment. The real reason to choose us for this specific trek, though, is our friendships. We’ve spent years building real relationships with the families who run the community lodges. That means when you show up, you’re not just another tourist; you’re a friend of a friend, and that changes everything. It’s a warmer welcome, a more genuine experience.
For us, it’s not about just getting you from point A to point B. It’s about sharing a piece of the Nepal we love and doing it the right way.

FAQs For Mohare Danda Trek
It’s tucked away in the Annapurnas. Picture yourself on a big, grassy ridge with the Annapurna range on one side and the massive Dhaulagiri range on the other. It’s a quiet spot in the Myagdi part of Nepal.
Nepal Trekking Rangers was phenomenal. Yuddha and his team were communicative, organized, and fairly priced. When our flight to Kathmandu was delayed, Yuddha met us at the airport and ensured we made our connection to Lukla without issue.
On the Three Passes trek, Yuddha was exceptional — attentive, flexible, and fun (he taught us Nepali card games we played nonstop). Thanks to Nepal Trekking Rangers, this truly was a once-in-a-lifetime experience!
Trek with Nepal Trekking experts if you are going to Nepal!
I just finished the Everest Base Camp trek with Nepal Trekking Rangers and would 100% recommend them to anyone coming to Nepal.
Yuddha, the owner, is a true professional. From the beginning when I contacted him, he was super responsive and able to provide advice on which trek was best. Whenever I had follow-up questions, he would always respond the same day. They also operate with the utmost integrity. Originally, I was meant to trek with them in 2020, but this was cancelled because of Covid. Yuddha reminded me that I had paid the deposit five years ago (which at the time I had told him to hold on to) and took that off the price — I had completely forgotten.
They gave me a warm welcome at the airport as soon as I arrived, and Yuddha met me at my hotel to make sure I had the correct kit, even providing me with things I didn’t have free of charge.
On the trek itself, Yuddha was our guide — so knowledgeable, fun, and spoke great English. Every time I asked him a question about the mountains or region, he had an answer. All the tea houses booked were great and had good food. In the evening, he would play cards with us, and if we ever needed help with anything, he was always on hand.
Words can’t describe the views you see on this trek — we were completely surrounded by the mountains. Yuddha also made sure we went at a sensible pace to avoid any risk of altitude sickness and to ensure we could take it all in.
Overall, it was an experience of a lifetime, and next time I am back in Nepal, I will be trekking with Nepal Trekking Rangers.
Thanks so much, Yuddha!
Perfekter Trek zum Everest Basecamp
We have nothing but positive things to say about our trek with Nepal Trekking Rangers! Our group of three friends was looking for something a little different from the EBC trek and didn’t have time to do the full Three Passes loop. Nepal Trekking Rangers gave us lots of options, and we decided to trek directly to Gokyo Lakes, then over Renjo La and back down to Lukla. It was perfect for us.
Our guide, Yuddha, was super knowledgeable, and the team supporting us was kind and helpful throughout. The communication before and after the trek was excellent, and when we ran into a small snag during our journey, Yuddha handled it smoothly and professionally.
I can’t say enough about how experienced, well-connected, and genuinely kind everyone was. We had an amazing trip, and you’ll be in great hands with Nepal Trekking Rangers.
Great Himalay experience
Hiked the Three Passes trek with Nepal Trekking Rangers and our guide Yuddha. He was a fantastic guide to have on this trek — knowledgeable, professional, and a great match for our group. I’ll be happy to use their services again on our next Himalaya adventure.
Incredible Three Passes Trek Experience!
We had an incredible time on our Three Passes trek (and during our whole visit to Nepal) thanks to Nepal Trekking Rangers! I researched trekking guides thoroughly before we started our trip and probably reached out to 15 of them. I decided Nepal Trekking Rangers was the best in terms of reviews, ease of communication, and price. After the trip was complete, I can confidently say I was right to choose them.
We had a specific itinerary in mind that needed to fit our schedule, and Yuddha was extremely helpful and accommodating. He answered all our questions promptly during planning and provided extra info, tips, and advice that we wouldn’t have known to ask about. When our international flight to Nepal was delayed by 12 hours, he pulled out all the stops to make sure we still made it to Lukla on time — coming to the airport himself with all the gear we rented, helping us repack into their duffel bags, and storing our suitcases at their office. It was incredibly convenient, and we would have been hugely delayed without his extra effort. He even brought Nepalese rupees to exchange from our USD so we wouldn’t waste time at the airport — and at a better rate!
Our guide, Yuddha, was clearly one of the best we saw on the trails. His decades of experience showed. He was kind, attentive, knowledgeable, and a lot of fun. He helped us navigate the chaos of Lukla airport, made sure we got the best possible accommodations within our budget, communicated with tea house staff, showed us local plants, animals, and landmarks, and answered all our “Which mountain is this?” questions with patience and insight. He told us amazing stories, taught us a Nepali card game that became a nightly tradition, and kept us safe and confident through tricky sections like Chukhung Ri, glacier crossings, and the steep descents from the passes.
When we decided mid-trip to skip an acclimatization day in Dingboche, Yuddha quickly rebooked all our accommodations to adjust the schedule. That flexibility allowed us to return to Kathmandu a day early and enjoy more time in the city — a perfect ending to the trek.
Nepal Trekking Rangers clearly employs some of the best in the business, and Yuddha is incredibly skilled and dedicated to making sure guests have an unforgettable experience. After the trek, we visited his office in Kathmandu to share our experience, and he was a warm and gracious host, eager to hear our feedback — which was all glowing.
This was a truly memorable trip, and we’re so glad we chose Nepal Trekking Rangers.
