Relax at Tatopani hot spring after a high-altitude trek
Panoramic views of Annapurna II, IV, and Dhaulagiri
Cross Thorong La Pass—a Himalayan odyssey
Drive through several traditional villages
13 days Annapurna Circuit Trek with Muktinath Overview
The Annapurna Circuit Trek with Muktinath Drive is a nice trek into the high-altitude area along with a rich pilgrimage experience. Certain to be one of the most diverse trekking areas. One of the trek routes takes you along the most traditional Annapurna Circuit, setting the path from subtropical hills and forests to a strikingly high-altitude landscape of the trans-Himalayan area.
Massive snow-capped titans greet trekkers to Thorong La Pass-Annapurna II, Gangapurna, and Dhaulagiri on the crossing over. Having looked in awe, the descent trek into the dry, desert Mustang region offers an enormous contrast of landscape and culture.
The trek goes on to Muktinath, a holy pilgrimage center for both Hindus and Buddhists. The temple is famous for the ever-burning flame and 108 water spouts and is revered by both Hindus and Buddhists. It lies under the rain-shadow Himalayan cliffs. After seeing the temple, the longer treks are substituted by an adrenaline-pumping off-road ride, partly cutting short the return journey but keeping the flavor of the journey intact.
This one experience spans mountain treks and a blend of culture and spiritual substance, with the optimum mixture for those who desire a short but complete Himalayan package trek. With this trek, visitors move through traditional villages, ancient monasteries, and stunning vistas that change perversely step by step—from rhododendron forest to barren high desert. It is, in connected words, a strange combination of physical struggle, cultural immersion, and spiritual cleansing!
Route Description
The Annapurna Circuit Trek with Muktinath Drive is a trek of 13 days that begins on arrival in Kathmandu. You drive from Kathmandu to Besisahar via high hills, rice fields, and thriving bazaars. Besisahar is the beginning of the Annapurna Circuit. You have a local jeep on a rent basis and a short ride to Dharapani. Off-road jeep driving gets you deeper into the Marsyangdi Valley. Your trek officially begins from Dharapani. The trail gradually ascends, passing through beautiful pine and fir forests and crossing suspension bridges and traditional villages like Chame and Upper Pisang. You’ll start to encounter towering peaks like Annapurna II, Lamjung Himal, and Pisang Peak. Through the high trail over Ngawal, not only do you have panoramic views of mountains along the way, but also closeness to Tibetan-flavored Buddhist culture in the guise of prayer flags, chortens, and monasteries.
The landscape coalesces into one vast dry valley by the time you arrive in Manang—a postcard-beautiful alpine town and yet another crucial acclimatization stop. Day treks are available here: a strenuous hike to Ice Lake or a trek to Gangapurna Lake and Chhongkar Viewpoint for great views and acclimatization. The trail crosses over from Manang via yak grazing and rock face to Thorong Phedi and Ledar, a base for trekking the magnificent but challenging Thorong La Pass at 5,416 meters, trekking high point and best panorama.
Following a steep climb to the pass and a downhill drive, you reach Muktinath, a pilgrim town where Buddhist and Hindu pilgrims offer prayers. Take a scenic drive through the deepest gorge in the world, the Kali Gandaki Gorge, to Pokhara. The trek ends with a flight or post-trek drive and some free time to take in the immense beauty, cultural richness, and spiritual atmosphere of this amazing Himalayan trek.

What to Expect
The Annapurna Circuit Trek with Muktinath Drive offers some of the most beautiful and colorful trekking scenery, some of the most diversified natural scenery, and culturally diverse parts of Nepal. From the lower Marsyangdi Valley, which is abundant with dense forests and torrential rivers, the trekkers witness the whole transformation that a vast landscape has to offer while trekking deeper into the dry highland plateaus of Manang and Mustang. The pièce de résistance of the trek is Thorong La Pass (5,416 meters)—one of the highest crossable trekking passes in the world and a demanding ascent with fabulous views of Annapurna II, III, and IV, Tilicho Peak, Gangapurna, and even the collapse of Dhaulagiri.
Culturally vibrant villages along the way, like Ngawal, Braga, and Manang, still bear the Tibetan-dominated way of life. The ancient Braga Monastery, prayer wheels, mani walls, and flowing prayer flags all testify to the Buddhist cultural history of the region. The trek ends at sacred Muktinath Temple, a place of pilgrimage to which Hindus and Buddhists alike come in droves to the temple that contains an ever-burning flame and consists of 108 water spouts. It's as much a physical place as it is a spiritual one, and one that offers an experience second to none for trekkers to unwind and absorb the culture.
Be ready for arduous trekking days of up to 9 hours, depending on the terrain and height. The route is easy, although there are steep ascents and rocky paths, especially around Thorong La. There are plenty and truly more than sufficient acclimatization days incorporated into the itinerary as part of the trek that offer good vantage points, e.g., the optional climb to Ice Lake (4,600 m) and Chhongkar Viewpoint. Adequate fitness levels are needed, but experience in trekking can be advantageous, though not necessary.
Teahouses continue to be found in remote villages where basic yet clean accommodations exist, shared twin rooms with shared bathroom facilities, and shared dining halls serve local, filling foods like dal bhat, noodle soup, momos, and even cake in villages like Manang. This is a form of teahouse trekking in Nepal that is a close-up and intimate experience with a local host and mountain life daily.
Instead of trekking the entire loop, this choice enjoys a scenic drive by jeep from Muktinath to Pokhara. It shortened the distance in time and provided even fleeting glimpses of the world's deepest, the Kali Gandaki Gorge. The trek rapidly transports you from dry highlands, specifically, to green hills and terraced fields and offers you another thrilling segment of Nepal's great panorama.
Seasonal weather is experienced. Spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November) are the most suitable seasons to try the Annapurna Circuit Trek, during which the weather is generally clear and high-altitude trekking is pleasant with pleasant temperatures. It is below 3,500 meters at night, and layers will need to be worn.
Apart from the trek and scenery of the country, this trek is actually distinguished by the immense sense of spiritual self and personal development one feels from this trek. Having been at the base of the towering peaks of the Annapurnas, traversing sacred Thorong La, or lighting a butter lamp at Muktinath Temple, the memories and experience one derives from this trek last a lifetime.
Best Season to Trek
Spring (Mar–May) and autumn (Sep–Nov) are the best times to hike the Annapurna Circuit. The time is ideal for:
Spring (Mar–May): Witness rhododendron flowers, pleasant weather, and secure Thorong La Pass hikes.
Autumn (Sep–Nov): Experience the best Himalayan scenery view, blue sky, and celebratory attitudes like Dashain and Tihar.
Winter (Dec–Feb): Worst since there is much rain and slush at high elevations.
Monsoon (Jun–Aug): Steer clear of trekking since it rains, has leeches, and has low-altitude landslides.
Trekking Difficulty
The Annapurna Circuit Trek with Muktinath Drive is a challenging trek for experienced trekkers seeking a high-altitude trek with no technical climbing. The trail is mixed; some days you’ll trek ascents, and some days the trail is quite easy, but the toughest section is the Thorong La Pass (5,416 m), which consists of a very long, steep, and tough day with some stamina and altitude sensitivity. Though prior experience on the trek is to be preferred, it is not essential if you are well prepared, maintain an even pace, and acclimatize. You will be trekking between 4 and 9 hours daily. And driving back from Muktinath shortens the itinerary so that it becomes less strenuous than the full circuit, which is ideal for the short-time visitor who wants to experience one of Nepal's most popular trekking trails.
Food and Accommodation on Trek
Accommodation
The Annapurna Circuit Trek with Muktinath Drive lodgings are typical mountain teahouses functioning as a local community. Teahouses offer quite simple and cozy accommodation. Most rooms are twin-sharing with basic beds and blankets, and bathrooms are common in nature. However, the amenities are a bit better where there is a larger population in some villages like Chame, Manang, and Muktinath. Eating takes place in common halls beside fireplaces, where trekkers from all over the world gather, socialize, and share experiences.
Food
Food is kept simple and filling, ranging from possibilities of soup, dal bhat (rice, lentils, and vegetables), Tibetan bread, noodles, soups, momos (dumplings), and pasta. There are bakeries for apple pie, cakes, and coffee. Vegetarian meals are generally available, alongside purified water sold or available through refill stations along the trail. Facilities will get rather basic as you head up in altitude, but the hospitality with which you are treated always remains, rendering food and accommodation along the Annapurna Circuit an immensely rewarding cultural experience worth absorbing.
Permits for Trek
To complete the Annapurna Circuit Trek with Muktinath Drive, you need two official trekking permits. They are:
Annapurna Circuit Area Permit (ACAP)
The ACAP permit must be bought to see the conserved Annapurna Conservation Area, supporting local conservation and tourism development activities. The permit can be bought at Kathmandu or Pokhara either from a registered trekking agency or directly from the tourism offices with a valid ID and passport photos.
Trekkers’ Information Management System (TIMS) card
The TIMS card, operated by Nepal Tourism Board and TAAN, ensures your security on the trek and registration. It is available for pick-up in Kathmandu or Pokhara from an approved trek agency or at the office of the tourism with valid ID and passport-size photographs.

It's quite tough trekking for regular walkers. Thorong La Pass (5,416 meters) is the most difficult section because it's too high and the day is too long to walk.
Nepal Trekking Rangers was phenomenal. Yuddha and his team were communicative, organized, and fairly priced. When our flight to Kathmandu was delayed, Yuddha met us at the airport and ensured we made our connection to Lukla without issue.
On the Three Passes trek, Yuddha was exceptional — attentive, flexible, and fun (he taught us Nepali card games we played nonstop). Thanks to Nepal Trekking Rangers, this truly was a once-in-a-lifetime experience!
Trek with Nepal Trekking experts if you are going to Nepal!
I just finished the Everest Base Camp trek with Nepal Trekking Rangers and would 100% recommend them to anyone coming to Nepal.
Yuddha, the owner, is a true professional. From the beginning when I contacted him, he was super responsive and able to provide advice on which trek was best. Whenever I had follow-up questions, he would always respond the same day. They also operate with the utmost integrity. Originally, I was meant to trek with them in 2020, but this was cancelled because of Covid. Yuddha reminded me that I had paid the deposit five years ago (which at the time I had told him to hold on to) and took that off the price — I had completely forgotten.
They gave me a warm welcome at the airport as soon as I arrived, and Yuddha met me at my hotel to make sure I had the correct kit, even providing me with things I didn’t have free of charge.
On the trek itself, Yuddha was our guide — so knowledgeable, fun, and spoke great English. Every time I asked him a question about the mountains or region, he had an answer. All the tea houses booked were great and had good food. In the evening, he would play cards with us, and if we ever needed help with anything, he was always on hand.
Words can’t describe the views you see on this trek — we were completely surrounded by the mountains. Yuddha also made sure we went at a sensible pace to avoid any risk of altitude sickness and to ensure we could take it all in.
Overall, it was an experience of a lifetime, and next time I am back in Nepal, I will be trekking with Nepal Trekking Rangers.
Thanks so much, Yuddha!

We have nothing but positive things to say about our trek with Nepal Trekking Rangers! Our group of three friends was looking for something a little different from the EBC trek and didn’t have time to do the full Three Passes loop. Nepal Trekking Rangers gave us lots of options, and we decided to trek directly to Gokyo Lakes, then over Renjo La and back down to Lukla. It was perfect for us.
Our guide, Yuddha, was super knowledgeable, and the team supporting us was kind and helpful throughout. The communication before and after the trek was excellent, and when we ran into a small snag during our journey, Yuddha handled it smoothly and professionally.
I can’t say enough about how experienced, well-connected, and genuinely kind everyone was. We had an amazing trip, and you’ll be in great hands with Nepal Trekking Rangers.
Great Himalay experience
Hiked the Three Passes trek with Nepal Trekking Rangers and our guide Yuddha. He was a fantastic guide to have on this trek — knowledgeable, professional, and a great match for our group. I’ll be happy to use their services again on our next Himalaya adventure.
Incredible Three Passes Trek Experience!
We had an incredible time on our Three Passes trek (and during our whole visit to Nepal) thanks to Nepal Trekking Rangers! I researched trekking guides thoroughly before we started our trip and probably reached out to 15 of them. I decided Nepal Trekking Rangers was the best in terms of reviews, ease of communication, and price. After the trip was complete, I can confidently say I was right to choose them.
We had a specific itinerary in mind that needed to fit our schedule, and Yuddha was extremely helpful and accommodating. He answered all our questions promptly during planning and provided extra info, tips, and advice that we wouldn’t have known to ask about. When our international flight to Nepal was delayed by 12 hours, he pulled out all the stops to make sure we still made it to Lukla on time — coming to the airport himself with all the gear we rented, helping us repack into their duffel bags, and storing our suitcases at their office. It was incredibly convenient, and we would have been hugely delayed without his extra effort. He even brought Nepalese rupees to exchange from our USD so we wouldn’t waste time at the airport — and at a better rate!
Our guide, Yuddha, was clearly one of the best we saw on the trails. His decades of experience showed. He was kind, attentive, knowledgeable, and a lot of fun. He helped us navigate the chaos of Lukla airport, made sure we got the best possible accommodations within our budget, communicated with tea house staff, showed us local plants, animals, and landmarks, and answered all our “Which mountain is this?” questions with patience and insight. He told us amazing stories, taught us a Nepali card game that became a nightly tradition, and kept us safe and confident through tricky sections like Chukhung Ri, glacier crossings, and the steep descents from the passes.
When we decided mid-trip to skip an acclimatization day in Dingboche, Yuddha quickly rebooked all our accommodations to adjust the schedule. That flexibility allowed us to return to Kathmandu a day early and enjoy more time in the city — a perfect ending to the trek.
Nepal Trekking Rangers clearly employs some of the best in the business, and Yuddha is incredibly skilled and dedicated to making sure guests have an unforgettable experience. After the trek, we visited his office in Kathmandu to share our experience, and he was a warm and gracious host, eager to hear our feedback — which was all glowing.
This was a truly memorable trip, and we’re so glad we chose Nepal Trekking Rangers.
